Not sure if I'll be able to make it or not, a bit of a drive.  For anyone who hasn't checked yet, Nonresident 7 day small game is $31.00.

Alright!!!! Something to look forward to.

I'll be there if my low slung Saturn will make it through whatever Mother Nature, or should I say Muthah Nature, has in mind for that weekend.

Hey...word has it that the January of 2005 will be one of the mildest on record.  Heck, we may be hunting in our tee shirts and jeans.  Well...maybe.   We do have hard top roads now Larry, so I don't think it will be too difficult to get to Bedford 8^).  Washington made it during the Whiskey Rebellion.

Anyway...the squirrels here are developing a superior attitude and need to be dealt with in an appropriate manner.  Frankly, I think they are getting a little uppity...elitist, if you will.   One was chittering at me this morning; I can take a lot of things, but chittering pi$$es me off to no end.  They need a comeuppance.

I'm going to check out the Archery Only area of Shawnee tomorrow morning and see if I can find a whitetail that is hiding from the rifle hunters.
That area has a nice little line of hardwoods that harbors a few grays as well.  I spent today with my granddaughter Amanda.  We hunted in the morning; saw two does but no legal bucks for her.  This afternoon we went to the park to review the bluebird trails and clean out the nesting boxes, so she can help manage one of those this coming year.  The parks are in need of volunteers to help with projects such as the trails, and lately there is not many volunteers.  Too many puter games I guess.   George

Here is the link to the Super 8 motel in Bedford that Phil Magistro posted last year.  I just made reservations for Friday and Saturday night with a AAA discount and it was $59.39 per night for two people or $61.55 per night for three people.

BTW, they have a complimentary continental breakfast, read that to mean coffee juice, and doughnuts or bagels.  Their website gives the details.

See ya' all there. I hope to bring my 18 year old daughter along on the trip, she's been bugging me to take her hunting so this sounded like a good trip to do it on.

Now I just gotta find my nutters!

Anyone who wants to come Friday will be welcome.  We can chase some grays then as well.  The squirrels won't be expecting us until Saturday so we could get the jump on a few of them until they pass the word 8^).  Those of you who have campers, or are just nuts enough to sleep in a tent in January, the campground at Friendship Village is open year round.  It's just a few miles west of Bedford on Rt. 30.  If enough want to come down Friday, we can try to have a campfire.  We can hold that off until the last moment though, until we're fairly sure about attendance, weather, etc.   George

George,

I will be coming in on Friday with my daughter, not sure of what time, but definitely in time for a campfire.  I might be bringing one other person with me.

Larry, Darren, Doc,
So far we have five total of the eight I need to go ahead with the rental.  After that, it is going to be cots or sofas; but, the price will come down for everyone.
I still would like to see who else is heading to this event soon.  I think that I need to move on this soon.  I'm thinking that Friday check in is going to be somewhere around 3:00pm (at least that is what it is at other parks.)  So we could hunt for a while before we check in.
Ad says that they even have an outside fire ring for us to use.  I think I can throw some firewood on the back of the truck before I head out.  If someone else brings some we should be set to go for the weekend.
I'll wait and see who posts in the next week before I make the commitment on the rental.

The house on the island is just four miles from my home in Manns Choice.  You can smell the squirrels from there 8^).   I think the office closes at 4PM, so it would be best to get there by 3PM.   There are a ton of grays over there this year, especially on the oak ridge above and south of the dam breast.  It's a nice area to hunt with some brushy hollows and a creek nearby.
Hope the weather cooperates so we can get in some good squirrel chasin.   My phone number is unpublished so if anyone wants it you will need to e-mail me.    George

Gary

Sent ya an E-mail.

I'm in. Let me know where to send the money order.

If I need to cancel [to chase deer] I will give that spot to someone else at no charge... and I can give at least "one weeks notice" in order to give someone else some time to prepare.

Either way it's a win-win deal.  But like I said... let me know where to send the money order.

Never imagined I'd get so "pumped" for a squirrel hunt.     :D

Thanks for your efforts, Gary. I appreciate it, bud.
