Curtis must have been stalking the wrong pond.  The ones we found when I was there would have had those for a snack!!!!

I kinda have that look of envy don't I?

The day went way too fast Saturday. We awoke late and Jason wipped up some Breakfast. It didn't take long and we were fueled and out chasin critters. Like Mike said, the frogs were stacked up around the ponds so we took a little time to test our skills. These frogs weren't the really big guys that we normally see but lots of fun anyway. As you can see, I got one myself.

We made a quick run to my house on personal business and returned to my lease property. The afternoon meal wasn't anything to balk at. Jason and Mike threw together some rice and garlic stir fried Shrimp while I dozed in my tent. The even hunt was fast approaching and I was having some worries about our chance at success. The animals seemed to be holding tight and not moving about as they normally do. We head off into the evening hunt. CK

I could tell Curtis was nervous about our chances for success as we readied for the evening hunt.  I tried to set his mind at ease but he was the host and the host is always nervous. LOL

The light weight camo went on after a quick shower in the hose.  The cool didn't last long and I was sweating before we left camp.  We had a couple of hours of daylight left and planned to stick it out til the moon was high in the sky.

Jason and I grabbed our GPS/radios to check in at dark and we headed for our stands.  Upon arrival I found that the high winds of the afternoon had turned my double bull upside down so I wrestled it back upright and climbed in.  Man it was hot and I adjusted windows to get a breeze comming in.

The darkness came fast and nothing was moving in my corner of the world so I turned on the Rino 120 and keyed the mic to let Jason know I was on the air.  He called back quickly and was a bit excited.

He'll be home in an hour from work and i will let him tell the rest of the story.

Yep! It did fit well!

As the Sun went down I settled in for a long wait. The Moon was gonna rise later this evening but I was gonna sit it out till I got a hog or someone showed up telling me we needed to do some tracking. I like tracking!

As I sat there daydreaming in the dark, I hear a wistle. My first thought was that the guys had left their stand too early. I was thinking "man, they should have hunted another hour at least".
Thats when I heard another wistle with a little more vigor. I think I'll climb down from my tree and see what the ruckus is about. CK

Sorry guys, I got little tied up last night, it’s hard to find a lot of free time when you have two jobs.

The sun was sinking in the sky as I walked slowly out to my stand. The breeze was a bit stronger that night, and curiously blowing in the wrong direction from where my ground blind was from the feeder.  It was a good thing Curtis had already planned for this situation. on the opposite side of the clearing he had a tree stand.  I quickly shimmied up the tree, it was a good thing that I wasn’t as big as my dad, I would have never been able to stay in that thing.  As small as that stand was I knew my only chance was to take a seated shot if a hog should show up.

A half hour later as my butt clinched on to the metal grate swaying in the stiff wind, the feeder went off.  There was only about a half hour before dark, I had an arrow ready for I knew that there was not going to be any better time than this for one of these hogs to die.

Sure enough five minutes passed and I heard some snorting and sniffling coming down the trail that Curtis had told me that they would come from.  A lone hundred and fifty pound boar soon appeared out into the clearing, he looked around and headed right out and stuck his head in the tire that Curtis had put corn in the day prior. I raised my bow and started got ready for a shot to present itself. Something startled the boar; he backed away from the tire and looked around.  Sure enough he went right back to the tire and stuck his head in it again, this time presenting me with a much better shot angle, then he put his front two feet in the tire too, this opened up a much better shot.  I drew the bow back, and let loose my arrow, thhhhhhhhwwaaaaaaacckkkk!

The boar stumbled off down the trail; I heard my arrow break off and then some commotion. I stayed put and waited the wait, it always seems that it takes forever for those 30 min to go by. It was starting to get really dark, so I decided to get out of the tree stand while I could see good enough to find the steps.

I turned my radio on and made a few calls seeing if my dad has his on yet.  There was no answer; I started walking back to the truck.  About a hundred yards later I heard my dad key the mike, I quickly responded and told my dad I had shot a hog, he said he was on his way.  Five minutes later we were reunited and headed off to get Curtis from his stand to help us with he hog.

Well I have to get off to work now, Ill talk to yall when I get home.

Well this is a little out of order but here we go.

When I got to Jason, he was pretty excited.  It had been awhile since he dropped a string on an animal with his longbow.  By discription we might have a tough bloodtrail. He said the shot was high and back a little.  Typical for a treestand with no practice.  LOL

So we walked down the trail towards the truck and passed within 50 yds of Curtis.  I whistled at him a couple of times and finally just said, "we got some blood trailin to do!"

He joined us in a couple of minutes.  A quick trip to camp for the big lights and we were on the trail.  Upon arrival at the stand site, Jason walked us through the shot and the path the hog had taken.  It took a minute but there it was BLOOD and a good amount on the side of a bush. (not one of the twins)

We started on the trail quietly and carefully.  Curtis lead the way holding his hickory axe handle named "sweet spot".  No bows, no guns and no dogs dang this might be stupid.

soon the trail got prety skimpy (common for a high hit) and about 40 yds we found Jason's arrow.  Snapped right behind the footing.  Looked like about 8 inchs of penetration.  There was more blood now, but it was not necessary.  On the other side of the tree about 10 ft from the arrow lay a very nice black boar.

Well back slapping, hand shaking and general dancing in the street took place for a couple of minutes.  We sent Jason back to the truck for a hunk of rope to help with the drag and Curtis and I reflected on the happenings of the evening.

Turned out Curtis grabbed one leg and me another and away we went.  It was a short way to the clearing with the stand and jason and I tossed him in the back of the truck.

Back to camp for cameras and pics, then a quick field dress, skin and butcher job.
