Howdy all!! Just got back from an exciting weekend of hunting.
Things started off BAD when I was riding my Motorcycle/Huntin' Buggy down to my hunting site that's almost 300 miles from here. I had made it about 250 miles when I ran out of gas and a guy offered to pull me on into Alpine (about 10 miles) with a tow strap hooked up to his pickup. BAD IDEA!!!
I had a pretty bad crash, tore up my bike, screwed up my knee, right hand and elbow with some deep, deep road rash!! I was able to get it road worthy enough to get to our cabin late Friday night........
But, Saturday morning I could barely move my right arm, tried to draw my Reflex Grizzly Compound (68 pounds), and realized I was out of luck. I always take one of my recurves or longbows with me to play around with since I am just getting the hang of trad gear and I tried my Bear Grizzly (50 pounds) and found I could get almost a full draw out of it.
So......I gathered up my bow, arrows, camera, Nift-t-seat, and ghillie suit and headed to the easiest place I could get to that I wouldn't have to drag anything very far. It's a pretty good spot with 3 decent trails that funnel into this area.
I had been sitting about an hour when I had this little mulie come through!! He's no monster, but he came in at about 15 yards and gave me a perfect quartering away shot.
Believe it or not, that little Bear Recurve sent that arrow (Gold Tip 5575 with 100 grain brass insert and a 125 grain Thunderhead broadhead) straight thru and came out his right front shoulder. Luckily he only went about 20 yards and dropped!!
It was a lot of work getting him out of there with my busted up old body, but I was really excited and proud to be able to hunt after the miserable night I had the night before!!
Thanks for all the advice the past couple of months!! I would have never attempted this without all the help and how-to stuff on this site!!!
