I shot a nice 10 pointer this Sat. I first want to try to get the pics posted and after that will be happy to supply the details.
I was on my stand behind a former neighbor's home and I had my wife Laura on another stand by an apple tree about a mile away where I shot a spike horn two weeks ago. I was trying to be nice and put her in the best stand. At around 6 PM I took my bow off its hook so as to have it in hand. Last Jan. I had catarac surgery and periodically have to moisten my eye with drops and my eye started to get that "feeling" so I hung my bow back up and proceeded to out in the eye drops. The squirrels were very busy that afternoon and as I was putting eye drops back in my pocket glanced over my shoulder to see how many squirrels were making all the racket. I was surprised to see a nice ten pointer approaching directly towards my stand about 40 yards away. As I reached for my bow he looked my way so I froze. It seemed like several minutes before I had the bow in hand and the deer was still headed my way. As I reached for the string the arrow fell off the rest and fell to the ground. I am glad it wasn't aluminum as the deer just looked at the base of my tree and acted as if it was just another acorn dropping to the ground. Then the game continued and I had to now get another arrow from my quiver hanging on the tree next to me. Getting the arrow without alarming him went well but I had to take my eye off of him for a few seconds to be sure it was nocked correctly. When I looked back at him he was walking towards a distant oak and I knew it was now or never. He was perfectly broadside as he was turning. I lifted my bow and realized that I would have to take a sitiiing shot as there was a leafless branch I had to shoot under and clear if the shot was to be successful. His eyes seemed to meet mine as I released the arrow aiming for his lower chest. At first I feared I had undershot him but the lumenok disappeared right where his heart should be. He seemed unhurt as he slowly turned and trotted to the edge of the "hell hole" of a swamp he had emerged from. I prayed for him not to get to the swamp as I have trailed deer in there before and hated it. When he got to the edge of the swamp after a 40 yard "run" he stopped and seemed to be puzzled as to what had just happened. A few looks around and he fell over dead! I paced the shot at 22 yards and he died in just a few seconds. Dressing him I discovered that I had indeed centered his heart. I took one picture exactly as I found him.
I am pleased I have finally figured out how to post my own pics and it is late. If you have ??'s please post them here and will do my best in the morning to bring you up to speed.
