Although I said it in private correspondance let me publicly add my congratulations, and maybe a bit of an explanation for Chad's "ground shrink" remarks. Although this one is certainly a nice buck, Chad is used to shooting MUCH larger bucks (you should see the ones mounted in his house) and has already passed up bucks bigger than this one this season so naturally he's a bit dissapointed. Just the night before when Dianne and I were hunting with him he had a much larger buck within 8 yards and passed on it wishing Dianne had been in that stand that evening.

He shot this buck out of the stand I had hunted the previous evening. Had this one come by me, Chad would have only seen him while he was helping me drag it out...I'm not that picky ha ha

Way to go my friend, glad you left the really big ones for Di LOL

Man, if your gonna be spoiled, whitetail bucks is where I wanna sign up.  Thats real awesome Chad.  I can see where your comin from although I bet you hate (just alittle) that you feel that way in the first place.  I think more and more of us feel that way as the trophy mentallity becomes more and more common and hard to live up to.  Nothin wrong with challenging yourself to the extreme though.  We each have to decide for ourselves of course.  I always comfort myself with "theres alway next year" or "the big one has to step out one of these days, dont beat yourself up on the journey to that day".  I wish I had your problems is what I'm trying to say.  Rock-on Chad.

Thanks alot everybody. I didn't mean to come off like i was disappointed because, i'm not! I'm tickled with this buck. Like Mickey said i normaly set a high standard for myself. That is why i haven't put my tag on a buck in ohio since 2002. I have passed up bucks that would out score this one by 20 inches this year. I passed them mainly because they were young deer. I try to only shoot mature bucks but this time i just misjudged the buck. I guess i have been beating myself up a lil bit because i try to not shoot young deer and this time i shot a 2 year old. To me the age of the deer means more than the score.

Nothing wrong with this buck at all and if i wasn't hunting my own land i would shoot him 10 out of 10 times. I have this property all to myself so i try to manage it a lil bit. When someone comes to hunt with me i don't ask them to pass them. I figure if they are my guest, i want them to shoot whatever makes them happy. I just wish this buck would have walked out in front of Di, Mickey, or Mark instead!

This makes my 17th bow season and i have been fortunate to have taken alot of deer. Over the years i have grown to a point where i want to kill big bucks and to do that you have to let good bucks walk. I know it ain't for erverybody but i like the challenge! Thanks everyone and i'm sorry if i sounded like i was whining. I really am happy with this buck!

That is one hot stand Chad hunted here, an absolute focal point, I probably hunted it 3 times, and Chad twice, maybe Mickey once?.. in 5 days the prior week. A really sneaky easy to-slip-in morning stand too, never have enough of those! I had my chance in that stand for sure.

I just can't believe how responsive those bucks are with various calling methods. What a breath of fresh air!  Just having three calling  encounters with different bucks was great fun for me, and very exciting.

CK, I came home with one of his "extra" bows, sure am glad I did, like it very much!

Nice shootin' Chad!
