Nice shootin CK, very fine animal. Bet you smelled real purdy after haulin that one down the mountain...not just from yer own, but them ol billies is RANK!

Originally many of the species were on exotic ranches that they either escaped from or flood waters broke down fences. They now run free along with Fallow deer and Black Buck. Those will be huntable on these hunts as well. Some species of goats on the ranch were placed there as livestock a century ago and remain free to graze at will. There are Mouflaun, Audad, Catalina, and several other species of goats along with many crossed species. Pardon my spelling please. The one I shot is supposedly Catalina. I personally wouldn't know the difference. I did know Audad when I saw them but they are really difficult to hunt with a bow on open cliffs.

The boots are SWAT boots with really good ankle support. CK

Yeah, ever time I put a stalk on an Audad they seemed to turn crank up their eyes to the supposed 12X they have and spotted me from 1/2 a county away.

I certainly know bout that stank...but they are fuuuuun to hunt!

WOW, count me in a jealous, too. Big game hunting in July-nothing better. I had a guy bring in a big billie to be mounted in my taxidermy shop once. I had to put the cape in peroxide to take out the stain and tame the odor. Seems billies pee on thier beards toa ttract nannies. after dealing with him, I believe it. When we used to hunt Catalina isalnd for Spanish goats, you could often smell them before you saw them. Still your shot looked perfectly placed and now you have some chili meat!

With all the limestone, there ought to be some nice tabs of chert, too... Sounds like you're going to have long line of us ready to hunt with you on that place! Thanks for whetting our appetites! And great shooting!

Nice shooting CK. From what I've seen of your shooting, I would not want to be a game animal any larger than a mouse at 25 yards in front of your bow. Funny how that part of our brain takes over and decides shoot or not shoot - and is usually right. And those foxes are quick to dodge an arrow. A friend of mine took a perfect shot at a fox from 15 yards and said the fox took out a pen and paper and left him a note about the quality of his shot before departing - well before the arrow got there.

I am ready to come hunt the goat ranch any time. I love new territory and new game animals.

I get excited when I find a new Antelope ranch to hunt! Cant imagine how pumped you are over this find. And the owner is encouraging you to bring friends. Now that just dont happen round here. Congrats on a awesome animal and new "spot". Great stories ahead from this ranch I'm sure. Lookin forward to that!

Charlie, we call it Cedar, but it's Juniper. I think, blue Junipper, but you can get the exact scoop on Texas Park & Wildlife site - they calls it a "Noxious Weed".

Great hunting and pix!

Well, I found out we have some Texas bowhunters, and at least one good hunting ranch left. A landowner who will let you bring friends, is 1. pretty cool, 2. pretty rare, and 3. pretty covered up in goats.

Just so everyone knows, it was 101 degrees all weekend in most of the Hill Country this weekend.
I got to shoot some cactus pads.
