Something to think about while Brian makes his way back to Pa....

When you've been straining through the eye pieces of your binoculars so long that everything runs together it's not so easy to see these guys. Once you do see them, getting to them is even harder.

As you find yourself hop-scotching across the rocks and rubble trying desperately to reach the goats before they drop off the edge never to be seen again, you find yourself stopping to marvel at the awesome beauty. The exhilaration
of chasing an animal so difficult in a region so desolate and unforgiving cannot even be described. It is most simply "unbelievable". To find yourself within bow range of these animals after circling far and wide for hours is without description. For those of you who have forgotten "buck fever", you need to try this!!!!

The rewards are unforgettable as you carry your prey from the mountain.

Friday morning came very early after a mostly sleepless night. I'd found myself juggling dates for hunters the last week or so and was so exhausted I lay wide awake all night. Brian was to fly in from Pa and meet his hunting buddy in Dallas Friday evening. They would make the eight hour trip southwest till they arrived at the ranch around midnight. I'd start my journey west by 5:30 am and be on the ranch by 11:00am. I was pumped up to return to Carta Valley and chase the goats and sheep again. This place is pure magic for the bowhunter and Heaven for everyone else who enjoys breathtaking scenery.

Once upon the ranch I got the quaint little cabin in order, placed the ac units in the windows, and turned on the water. It had been months since I was last here and it felt wonderful to be back. I'd seen white Catalina goats across the canyon on my drive in. They immediately dropped over the edge upon spotting my truck but at least they gave me a breif glimpse into my future weekend here. I'd dawn my gear and head off into the mid-day sun. I did pause breifly to soak in some surrounding beauty.

I see there are at least a few thorns to make you feel at home. Can't wait to see some west TX myself in a couple weeks. Thanks for the pics and story to keep me going till then.

After talking to you on the phone today, I was really pumped to select a date to come out. Then I seen these pic's. Wow, I have to pass these to the others interested and see when we set a date to come out. Beautiful scenery. Which place was these pic's taken on?

We're just getting warmed up with the pictures, and they do absolutely no justice to this landscape.

Sorry for the delay everyone but my family comes first. Been spending the day with them and finally got a few seconds to sit down before getting ready for my day job (or should I say midnight shift job).

Here's a few for now. Great friends, good cowboy coffee and a genuine west Texas sunrise...

Anyone who's been dreaming of a true, rugged mountain sheep or goat hunt, but just could never come to grips with the costs, just had their dreams come true. Great stuff...I love my goat ribs with a cumin, corriander, and red chili rub...rare...
