I decided to run down to the Davis Mountains for the weekend and see if I could get some venison for the freezer....
It's been a long year....I shot right over the backs of two deer in one day back in October and then blew several GOOD opportunities at some pigs last week in San Saba.... those were the only two times I got to hunt this year and I screwed them both up.
Enough crying in my beer!!!!
I've had the flu and felt pretty bad for the past couple of weeks (really screwed up my hog hunt with LostHawg last week) and sure enough I overslept Sunday morning ....
I jumped up and threw on my camo warmups, grabbed my bow (used my 62" Habu T/D, 58@28) and hit the door to try and get to my DB Matrix blind that I had set up in a good spot on Saturday. It was already getting light as I was crossing a creek bed about 100 yards from my blind when a doe came out of the trees about 20 yards in front of me.
I froze and tried to melt into the trees hoping she wouldn't spot me . I got my tab on the string and started easing the bow up to try and get a clear shot at her when a pretty good little buck came out following her. He was in LOVE!!!
He walked right in front of me and I got a good full broadside shot at him at about 18-20 yards or so (don't really measure anymore )
Centerpunched him (a little further back than i like, but it got both lungs so I ain't complainin'!).....the arrow didn't hardly slow down as it busted right thru him!!! This Habu slams those 600 grain Goldtips!!!!
He went around a tree, laid down, threw his legs up and died within 15-20 seconds right there in front of me......I was thankful it was fast......and humane....
Here's what my arrow looked like when I found it....
The WW sure did it's job and is ready to be used again!!
Sorry for the bloody pics, I will try to clean them up when I get time......
Here he is!!!!!
And a couple of the Happy Hunter!!!!!!!
