Vance,

Calm your fears as we have enjoyed the following meals over the last several days.

Deer Tenderloin steaks
Chet's Swiss Steaks (Charlie Lamb served as head chief)
Deer Chili
Deer Breakfast Sausage with eggs

And we threw in some chicken tonight for a little variety.

My wife has made sure we had some cookies and apples with dip.

Have to feed the inner man during this cold damp windy hunting.

I was beginning to feel like a stray at the Kinslow house. I would show up to eat and then leave to hunt, only to show up a few hours later for more food. Thank you Chris and Samantha for your hospitality.

Don't worry Tom!  My wife hasn't run off too many strays over the years.  How do you think I've stayed around this long.

We just enjoy the good company.

Lamb took off today after spending the last five days up here in Weston. I really enjoyed his stay.  I wish he could have aerated a deer but it wasn't for lack of trying. He patterned a buck but a strange east wind over the last several days didn't give Charlie much of a chance.  He had to resort to a double bull backed into a corn field.  The buck never showed up again which isn't too suprising since the rut is finally starting to crank up around here.

Charlie and I had fun sharpening just about every blade and broadhead I own.  Charlie introduced Tom and I to a product called Yellowstone which we used to put a wicked edge on some of Tom's STOS as well as my woodsman.

Thanks for paying me a visit Charlie.  I can't wait to get down to my brothers for the gun season as all of us are going to keep using the bows and try to catch the rut in full swing.

Charlie and I have talked a lot about about living life to the fullest and trying to make memories while we can.  To quote my wife's grandmother "We only walk this way once so we better make the most of it".

Words to live by....get out and hunt with your friends and family every chance you can!

That’s right Chris… This material called Yellowstone will make your broadheads wicked sharp! It put a polished edge on my broadheads that cut the hairs off my arm effortlessly. This is as close to scalpel sharp that I have ever had my broadheads. Here is a link to this honing compound

  http://www.woodcraft.com/product.aspx?ProductID=09L85&FamilyID=7334

Charlie sprinkled a little bit of this compound on my leather strop and I passed the broadheads along the strop as I normally do but this time the results were amazing! Thanks Charlie!

Update:

Charlie is now down south at my place about 20 miles east of Springfield.  I'm stuck at work, while charlie is out in the woods this morning.   Chris, Tom, and the nephews will be joining us on Friday in time for the evening hunt.  The rut appears to be starting up in this neck of the woods, so hopefully we will have some additions to this thread.

Well guys, it sure was fun. I'm back home now taking care of unforseen issues that had to be attended to.

I'm very disappointed that my hunt with you all was cut short. Can't imagine anyone I'd rather hunt with more and that includes my new friend Tom "Gatekeeper" Porter. (where does that handle come from?)

Keep me posted on how the hunt progresses, keep your nose to the wind and your eyes on the horizon guys.

Nice shooting Stoney! Fine doe indeed. Sounds like a great hunt and camaraderie.

Welcome home Charlie. Sure wish we did not have a state border between us and Draconian Iowa deer tag regulations. Say hi to Billie and keep those home deer on their toes.
