Aram again:
I rubbed noses with a doe this morning... well, OK, it was more like 12 yards but it sure was fun to watch it come undone. That was the only deer sighting. Lots of sign though... Some shots on turkey... lots of grouse flused... porcupine visits.. etc. I'm sure more stories will follow. Gotta run, duty calls... it's rough here you know.   :p

Reaffirms my opinion of New York drivers!

Those slugs...bet they're sleeping it off after gorging on squirrel last night.

Chris on Nathan's signup here...once again, meat has been made. A little heavier than squirrel, too...at least, by your's truly. Can't say yet if anyone else has anything down, seeing as there still back in the woods...

No, it looks like a dark brown blob. Sorry.

You gonna make a roach outta that?
I hear they're good eatin', blobs.

So its my first hunt. Ever. I couldn't have been with a greater bunch of people. So helpful that I felt guilty for not having done any of the work. We went out yesterday and it was uneventful. The woods were wet from on and off rain so things were pretty quiet except for the noisy red squirrel. So we went back to the house for great food(Toecutter) and Christmas in October from Drewsbow. After a couple of cold ones and a good night sleep. We got up and tried again. I really didn't think I would see much after yesterday. We kinda had trouble finding our blinds, so I figured we ran all the deer off. I wasn't in my blind for maybe 45 minutes when I hear a rustle in the leaves and 2 does come up over the ridge 13 yards away right in front of me.The first one was big. Mighta been the one with the funny ear but I was too excited to notice. She looked at me and went about her business. The smaller deer watched me nervously for what I think was 3 or 4 minutes. Nose in the air trying to get a whiff. Meanwhile I'm watching the big one out of the corner of my eye. She walks behind a big pine, still at 13 yards clear shot.I'm not sure if the other deer can see me at all in the blind. I'm a new hunter. I know now that it couldn't see me . The big deer comes out from behind the tree. I can see the first 2/3 of her body. She stops and puts her head down to eat some acorns. The perfect shot! I pick a spot. I don't draw back because the other doe is still nervously watching me. She almost looks like she wants to come closer. I can hear the big doe chewing the acorns and it walks out of my view. The nervous deer quartered away and past in front of my blind at about 25 yards. I didn't take the shot that I've been practicing for for 2 months straight. It happened just like I envisioned. I don't regret not taking it. There will be other shots. I promised myself that I would not shoot unless I was sure and I wasn't. Now I am. What a rush! I absolutely loved it. It was the best time. Thanks to everybody! There wasn't a bad second in the whole weekend. My son had a ball.
My buddy EJ shot a squirrel. He is going to be quite the hunter I think. Thanks to Mother Mowery for her hospitality. I can't really express my appreciation and how much fun I really had. Thanks guys for allowing a couple of newbies into the fold. You guys are great!

Brian it sounds great but remember ya can't kill them if ya don't put an arrow in the air. Take or at least try to take that 13 yard shot, ya never know! shawn
