I suck at this turkey huntin but Joey Buchanan's handmade calls make it possible.
I didn't hear a peep this morning and by 8 o'clock I was ready to give it up. The yard needs mowing, the garden needs to be disc'd (sp) you know what I mean. Then I saw one hen and one gobbler about 150 yards off near the creek. I pulled out Joebucks slate call and gave him some magic. At the second purr, he left the hen and ran up the hill! I have a lane mowed thru the pines and I'd set up 12 yards from it. He ran right up the lane and there was a small brushpile that blocked him from view for about 3 seconds. I drew as he ran behind it and nailed him as he came running out the other side.
He flew off down the hill towards the creek but he never made it that far. 10" beard, 3/4" spurs.
Great Northern SuperGhost, cedar arrow, Zwickey head and note the cool new seat in the background.
