We finally reached our goal, a nice saddle between two mountains. We were drenched with sweat as usual, so we changed our shirts and sat down too eat our sandwiches. Suddenly we saw a glimpse of white. further glassing confirmed that 4 goats were slowly feeding along the rigdetop on the saddle.
Troy said he was pretty sure we could get to a good ambushspot in front of the goats. We snug over there and discussed the situation.
It was a good ambushspot as the goats proberly wouldnt be able to see me before they would be in range. My best option was to sit behind a little rigde with no cover at all and just rely on my asat camo.
So I waited..and waited...and waited..SUDDENLY I heard a couple rocks falling close by and my heart started pounding madly...nothing happend..after a minut or so two billies walked by 80 yards down the mountain, darn it !! maybe this just aint going to happen I thought, just then I hear a slight noise very close by..thump thump thump goes my heart and here comes a couple of black horns in weiw behind the little rigde I am sitting behind, the horns comes closer and closer and right before the goat steps out in front of me I come to full draw.
The goat is below me only 11 yards away and at a 40 degree angle downward. It stops, looking up but not looking at me..
Still at full draw I really try to pick a spot and when the right sightpic is there my fingers let go. The arrow just dissapears in the thick white fur.
The arrow strickes a little higher then I wanted but the goat only runs 40-50 yards before it gets really weakkneed and dissapears behind a rigde. I grab my arrows and run over there just in time to see the goat thumbling down the mountainside.. YEEEHAAA I yelled high on adrenalin
The big nanny goat slided down the mountain the same way we were supposed to go down ! how lucky can a guy get !?
We backslapped and talked about the shot. I was pretty sure I had taken the aorta and maybe even shot through the shoulderblade and that was excactly what happend we found out later.
Went down to the goat
The arrow went through the shoulderblade , nicked ribs in and out and passed all the way through just hanging on by the feathers before falling out.
We took pics, skinned the goat and started packing out with hide and meat
