I almost didn't go.
« on: November 04, 2007, 09:27:00 AM »
I almost didn't go hunting yesterday morning. At about 7:30am I heard something and looked behind me an saw a buck headed my way. When he got about 10 yds from the tree he picked up where I walked to the tree. I couldn't believe it as I had taken extra effort to prevent that. He turned around and gave me a quartering away shot and I thought things were beging to fall apart fast. I had to shoot behind the tree on the left side. I drew and shot and when he jumped up in the air and kicked his hind legs out I knew he was mine. There was no need to follow the blood trail as I saw him fall about 40 yards away and about 10 yard from where the 7 pointer I shot week before last fell.
Here is where he was standing when I shot.

Here is the blood trail that even and old man like me could follow.

After about 20 yards I found this.

Here is what I found at the end.

Here is what the Eclipse broadhead did to his heart.

I used a Great Northern Fireball 52#@28" with a larch arrow and an Eclipse broadhead

I guess if we run into the bear that is making these tracks, we oughta just get off the trail.......He seems to like it!

Beautiful shot and buck, Jack  :)

Those "almost did'nt go" hunts are some of the most successful ones... at least for us they have been.  :)

I'm hyped now
