Idaho Fish and game needs to read this----maybe my nephew can hunt with a light bow this season!

 You, sir, are evidently a great Dad! I congratulate you for how you are.

Terry Green, moderators...this thread needs to be placed in Hunting Archives or some other relevant place. This is really a good one.

This is Zach Swann here. 10-22-07. At 4:30 pm I went back to the acre of woods on the property to hunt squirrels in the blind I made out of river cane with the bow my dad and I had recently made. I'm sure my dad has gone in to detail about the bow.  5:10 pm - I've shot all my arows but one at squirrels; hit one in the foot but he was fine. Then up to the corn came the grandaddy groundhog. We have been trying to shoot him for awhile but decided not to shoot him with my last arrow.

Then I hear somthing behind me.  I turn around and to my surprise it is the buck I had scared before.  5:15 pm - I have been watching him eating leafs for awhile.  When you have to wait for a good shot time seems to go slow.  Finally he gives me a 20 yard shot.  I decided to take the shot thinking that I'm shooting at a 4 pount buck.  He ducks and I hit him in the artery that runs below the spine.  Watch him run 20 yards or so and I see him sit down and fall over backwards. 5:25 pm -  Decided to get out and check him.  I ran and grabbed another arrow, nock it and go over to him.  Poked him in the eye and tried to drag him, then I see that he is a 6 pont buck.  Went and told my sisters and mom.  Thank you all for the congratulations!

Zach, what you have done is more than just kill a deer (although that is a wonderful accomplishment in itself). You have shown the initiative and the can-do attitude that gets things done in the real world. Add to that the hard-won ability to do the deed, and smack! Down he goes, the REAL work begins, and after skinning and butchering, you have fed your family.

Many people your age don't feel that they can do anything that big and important, which is sad. I am very happy that somewhere out there, a young man develops his opportunities, and can get the job done. That attitude, and the leap of faith that is your arrow, will take you far in life.

Walk a straight and happy path.
Killdeer   :wavey:
Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.
