Sooooo, this morning I'm up at 3:30 and on my way, knowing that the season closes in two more days. I'm also cognizant of the fact that two years ago, almost to the day, (May 30th, 2005), I shot a turkey with the Little Delta bow in the same town I would be hunting in today. Would the mojo carry over??????
I got to my spot and realized that I had forgotten my camera, something I never go into the woods without......another omen perhaps?
My setup was simple, a DB blind with a single jake about 10 yards out, in a little clearing on a knoll about 100 yards into the woods. I called sparingly, and about an hour later I was answered by a hen. I called her and another hen right into my setup, they hung out for about 15 minutes before walking away into the woods. Then, at 7:15 I called for the last time, with the intention of leaving at 7:30 so that I could get to work. With my bow on the ground, I was looking at my stuff getting ready to pack it in when I looked up and there was a jake right near my decoy! I reached for the bow, the bird got antsy and began to leave, as he did I shot him at 11 yards. I knew I hit him hard, but thought it might have been a tad forward, thankfully I had followed Curt's advice and put a string tracker on my bow this year. The turkey took off and the string was peeling out, I felt like I wanted to grab it and fight him like a fish, but I resisted and watched the line play out.......
Have to go for a couple, be back in a few......
