PETA Upset at Six Flags Roach Contest
By Associated Press

GURNEE, Ill. - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants Six Flags Great America to scrap its Halloween-themed cockroach-eating promotion.

A spokeswoman for the animal rights organization says the contest at the amusement park's FrightFest is "gratuitously cruel."

The park in Gurnee, Ill., is joining other Six Flags parks in offering unlimited line-jumping privileges to anyone who eats a live Madagascar hissing cockroach. The bugs are up to three inches long.

The contest begins next month.

Amusement park officials are defending their menu choice. Great America spokesman Jim Taylor says the bugs are nutritious, high in protein and fat free.

Here's some more anti protesting:

An outdoorswoman who is running to become the leader of South Carolina’s education system has dismissed anti-hunters’ threatening messages and refused to call off a fundraising dove hunt.

Karen Floyd, Republican candidate for South Carolina State Superintendent of Education, has received numerous intimidating messages from anti’s demanding that she cancel her Oct. 3 campaign fundraiser. The event will feature a $1,000 per person dove hunt followed by a $100 per couple dinner with the candidate.

One anti-hunter, who believes “doves are no less important than children,” said that she hopes the sportsmen at the event shoot each other.  “You have less to contribute to this world than any dove or animal. People like you are evil and we don’t want you in this world…exploiting animals for money.  You are down there with drug pushers, murders and child molestors (sic).”

Other animal activists sent messages opposing the hunt and saying that children need to be educated on how to protect animal rights.

Despite hundreds of calls and posts, Floyd’s Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said the event will go on as planned. He told the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance that Floyd and her husband are avid outdoorspeople; they even went duck hunting on their honeymoon.

Anti’s across the country heard about the issue after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced that it had sent a letter to Floyd’s office demanding the benefit hunt be stopped.

Maybe we should all send a couple of bucks to her campaign.  They'll need it to fight off the anti money that will be pouring in.
