There are several crossbow Bills that have been introduced in the past weeks.
Assembly Bill A01154
This would allow the use of the crossbow for junior hunters to hunt small/big game, 16-17 years olds to big game with a crossbow, and place a $9 fee for the license
Senate Bill S00022
This would allow for the DEC to promugate standards for authorizing crossbow hunting by 7-1-09
Lastly is a 2 house Bill.
Assembly Bill A01155
Senate Bill S00709
This would allow the disabled person to hunt small/big game with a crossbow, provided they submit their disability status to the DEC.
All have been referred to their respective EnCon Committees for review.
Please contact the Chairmen and every member of the Assembly and Senate EnCon Committees about these Bills. The crossbow is not needed, but the Lobby is pulling every rabbit it has out its' hat. Youth need to be mentored into archery, and every young person of legal hunting age can draw, hold, and hunt with a legal bow of 35#. The physically challenged bowhunter has the use of either a Modified Crossbow Permit or the Handicapped Archers Permit, by which adaptive equipment is allowed to be used on THEIR OWN BOW!! Lastly, this is what has game agencies drooling across the country...ANOTHER LICENSE FEE that can be added to their coffers.
