As Dano said, and I put in my answer to your PM, Pat B is the best "Referance Book" in my book - but he tends to be modest (and shy -
- ya gotta open him up - like a clamshell - :D ) Just kidding, he is a great guy, very knowledgeable, and most helpful. If nothing else it will get you started and may lead to more/better stands and understandings. It looks like a good find to me too but I am a rank amature at "gathering", and take my cues from Pat B, Art B, Mat E, and my local friend/mentor, Mike Brooks. Wish I could help more, ss. You are on the right path though, in any case, and have every right to be excited. (Ah loves Cane Arras!!!
) In answer to your other question, Killie is, indeed, good at identifying/researching both flora and fauna but as said, it is hard from pics. If any of the mentioned folks were there, they'd have you straight as a warmed and hand straightened cane, in a heartbeat. Oh, one thing I recently learned from Mike when he showed me some new (to me) stands, it helps if you can find them growing in shade of other taller trees, etc. they tend to not grow so high, so fast, and therefore are less "whippy" and stronger (thicker walled) by the second year - makes sense to me - especially when I saw these I speak of. (Hope I got that right!) You may find areas/stands like that in the same vicinity as those purty pics you took.
