10-24-07   PM hunt

It had poured the rain all day only to slack off to a drizzle around 5pm.  I set up on the ground  apprx. 100 yards above an Alfalfa field. At about 6:15 I spotted movement and this doe was running down the ridge like she couldn’t wait to get in the field.  She hit an opening at about 10 yards and I stopped her broadside right where I needed her to be.  As the arrow passed through her I knew that the shot placement was good.  She never knew that she was hit, she ran about 20 yards and stopped and turned back my way looking for what she had heard.  She stood there about 10 seconds before she went down.

Since I was close to home I went back and got my hunting buddy to help get her home  :) .

10-27-07  AM hunt

Raining again.  Set up on a bench just under and paralleling a ridge top deep in the mountains with my climbing stand.  Heavy fog and cloud cover accompanying the rain delayed shooting light until around 7:30.  Around 8:00 two does slipped into range before I even knew that they were there.  The closest of the two offered a nice quartering away shot at about 12 yards from the base of my tree.  I felt good about the shot placement but the arrow was still in the deer as she ran hard down the ridge and out of sight.  I sat down to re-think what had just happened and after taking into consideration the rain and how hard she was running when she left the area I decided to get down immediately and take up the trail as I knew that she had probably covered a good bit of ground even if she was only on her feet for 15 or 20 seconds.  I found good blood right away which began where she was standing when I shot her, I was also able to confirm that I had an exit wound as there was blood on both sides of her tracks.  The blood only became heavier the farther I tracked her and the rain ended up not being a factor, as she was really spraying it everywhere.  She traveled apprx. 150 yards before going down.

I’m shooting a Bear Grizzly 60# @ 28” and I am drawing 29.5”.  XX75’s tipped with 170 gr. screw in Snuffers.

Great job. The pictures are clear as a bell on my computer. Guess you got the problem fixed. Amazing how far they can go after such a lethal hit. Keep up the good work.
