String Silencer Positioning

Probably been asked before but I can't find it.  What is the opitmal location (at least to begin the fine tuning process) for string silencers.  I am going to replace mine and wanted to improve on what I have if possible.

Todd... divide the string into 1/4 and 1/3 sections between points of contact with the bow.

Those locations will be the place to start with the process.

It can vary from bow to bow. That's part of the mystery and beauty of these bows.  Brace height?
String type?  Lots of things to consider.  Find the right combination for your style.  Charlie gave a good starting point.

The way I see it is that most bows we use are 54 to 64 inches and using the 1/4 to 1/3 rule is fine for string silencing.  I put mine at 14 to 16 inches from the nocks on my bows 60 to 66 inches.  I prefer the woolie things but they tend to not be as durable.  They fuzz off for a while and get in my eyes for a few days after I install them.

Start where Charlie suggested. I attended a seminar that included some interesting facts on placement. They went into tuning it like a stringed instrument, 1/4 notes etc.

If you first put your silences on a little loose so they are movable. You can strum the string and listen to where it's most effective.
It does work.

Like Macbow, I put 'em on loose and strum it. works for me. My shooting buddy once said, "WOW you really quieted that bow down." 1/4 is a good starting place.
