which spine to order
« on: January 20, 2008, 12:25:00 PM »
I am shooting a BW PLII 55#@27. My current arrow are goldtip trad 5575 30.5 long with 240Gr. upfront. The gold tips seem to be a good shooting but a pretty weak shaft. I had a tight group at 15 yards and put a field tip through the side wall of another arrow(both arrows were sticking in the target straight just touching). I am thinking about switching to the carbon express arrows because I have heard they are much more durable. My question is what spine to get? I plan on shooting 100gr. brass inserts with a 140tip cut to 30 inches. The charts says the 250....anyone have a similar setup that can help me out?

I'm shooting the Carbon Express Heritage 150's with the standard aluminum insert and a 125 grain field/broadhead points.  My bow is a 53# @ 28" longbow.  Field arrows are 28.5" back of point and the broaheads are 29.5".  As the common expression goes, "they fly like darts". As for durabillity, I've done some stump shoting with them and so far they have held up.

Hope this helps.

I am shooting a 55# Quillian Patriot and I shoot the 150's 30 inches long with the alum. inserts and a 145 grain point and they are shooting great. I have shot the GT and the CX and the CX are a lot tuffer than the GT.

I would go with the 150's. I shoot them cut to 29.5"s out of my 54# Arroyo which is cut well past center and still need 175 grains up front for perfect flight. Your bow is not cut to center or just to center, it is tough to answer your question though. If ya draw 29"s ya may need the 250 but if ya draw 27"s than the 150's with 225-250 would be perfect. Remember when bareshafting ya want it to be slightly weak, as adding feathers stiffens it some. Shawn

I believe 3Rivers has a carbon express test kit that would allow you to try the different heritage shafts.
