Old Hickory Butcher Cut Up

I used an Old Hickory Butcher Knife to cut up for two blades. Going nice and slow with water to keep the blade cool. Turned out pretty good Got a Roach belly kind of blade and a small skinner/necker I think.

Old Hickory is great steel for a cheap knife. i hit a garage sale last year and the guy had about 75 knives still in plastic for $1 a piece!! dam guy in front of me bout most of them but i grabbed 5!

Here is the small blade with the handle roughed out with a small scrap of brass to use in the guard area. The wood is Zebrawood and it also will have a lanyard hole in the handle.

Yep! I didn't realize how hard the blades were until I tried to drill it. Then I figured out what the spot is on the blade. Where someone before me tried to drill a hanging hole or something. LOL!

When I use to make CheatR knives I used cobalt drill pits and went SLOW. I may have to make some since someone just sent me a few carbon blade butcher knives. Those blades ya cut out look good. Great steel also.<><

Cutting oil also helps in drilling.  And what Stickshooter said, slow and with a sharp bit.

I know what you mean, I finished my first one last night, well still have to seal the wood and sharpen.  But the major stuff is done.  Where do you get your sheath leather?  Did you hit that one with a ball pien hammer?

I used a pear tool from Tandy. I got a starter set of leather tools for about 8 bucks. Does all I need to do right now. I also get my leather at Tandy. I'm lucky that we have one here.

True, I wish I had one here in town.  But, I can order from Montgomery and have it the next day, in most cases.
