It was only about 3 months ago, if that, Frank, but there might be one person left that hasn't seen it yet -    ;)   . I won the Gut Hook Blank in a gift draw and now here I am, 4 knives later, and gathering stuff and info to do more - "and another one bites the dust" -    :D   I always loved knives, as is well known, and I really love finding I can put together a servicable one (or 2) myself, after all these years.

Here's the first one I ever made. It was made from a Skid plate off a Toyota land cruiser that I had.

This was my first knife and was my contribution to the 2005 St Jude CHR auction.  It was won by none other than our own Doug Campbell!  To say I was hesitant to send it to a real knifemaker is an understatement!!!

1095 blade, walnut handle, nickel silver guard and pins.  The spacer is nickel silver sandwiched between two white fiber spacers.

I posted a thread on this a week or so ago.

Blade is 1084 differentially hardened, nickel silver guard, stabilized spalted birch handle. Made under the guidance of ABS mastersmith Ed Caffery.

Now I am waiting on UPS to bring me some leather tools so I can make her a sheath!

First one I made from "scratch".  Man this is addicting.  Hoping to get better with it. Not sure I will get to the level of some of the others on here, but nothing wrong with striving to those levels

The top two are my first followed by the bottom three a week latter. Not much to brag about but they were a start.

I will say I feel like a pre-schooler bragging about a painting and having it next to a Picasso or Monet.  Gosh, ya'lls firsts are better than I ever can think about being.

You guys are killin' me.  These are my fist two that I pounded out from old files. They never got beyond this stage as I knew nothing about grinding, quenching, tempering, etc!

That's were Mr Campbell came in and taught me thru Trad Gang PM's  :notworthy:    :notworthy:  Doc

My first here, still cuts patches for the muzzleloader.
The only power tool I used was a 6" bench grinder.  Then used LOTS of wet/dry sandpaper and files/rasps.
The sheath is rawhide, made from soaking a dog chew toy in a bucket of water.  Still working fine but gets soggy when in the rain!
