W1 Hunter
« on: April 14, 2008, 04:32:00 PM »
You guys are havin' too much fun!
I've had this finished for a while but thought I might as well post it.
This handle material had me fooled. It started out as what I thought was a second-rate piece of ironwood. Not!
Even though it is rather straight-grained, it is simply as hard as a rock! It finished out so smooth it feels like a piece of marble. When I close my eyes and hold it, I can't even tell it's a piece of wood.
It's nice stuff, and very colorful as well.
The blade is forged from a 1 1/8" round piece of W1 and has a nice clayed hamon.
Yup. Take-down with stainless fittings.
It's a handful for a hunter - 10 3/4" overall with a 5 7/8" blade.

When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Karl, me 'n' you need to have an serious (expensive) conversation, some time!

Don't get all 'swelly-headed', but I really think that you're the finest bladesmith in the Us at the moment.

Oh no Rob! We'll never be able to live with him now!  :biglaugh:

In all honesty, Karl makes wonderful knives. I like the complimentary curves on that one. The Ironwood is gorgeous.

LOL!   :D

I need to get one of Karl's knives, before he gets his JS stamp & doubles his prices!   :D
There's just something about his simple, clean style that really, really appeals to me. I don't even collect knives, but I've got to have one of his Bowies soon!

My hat won't fit on now!
Those are incredibly kind words, and I'm honored and humbled.
I'm lucky to be able to do what I do.
Thank you.
