has aney one used the cow bone stag and if so can it be stained or antiqued in some way?

Heres a link for preparing cow bone, for musical instruments, but the same applies to knife scales I'd think. I'm about to try it myself soon and all the folks I've talked to soak it in a glass of die or stain for several days to get the color you want. Alot swear it takes on it's own color and the color of the dye and the end color may not be the same. Keep us posted of what you find out.
