My Fathers Knives
« on: July 12, 2008, 02:27:00 AM »
Some of you might have seen my fathers Bowie on Mr.Blakes Best Ever, but I wanted to show some more of his work. He was a master artist in every sense of the word and his attention to detail was outstanding. He was an extremely talented machinist and loved to work on several projects at the same time a little here, a little there, whatever he felt like at that particular day. He left behind several unfinished works I hope to someday finish and can only hope to do them justice. I do not have the 40+ years as tool and die experience he had or the ability to make the things he did but he did most of the hard stuff while he was still working and planned to finish after retirement, I have the materials to complete some outstanding pieces.

As you can see this is a BEAUTIFUL piece of work! He inlayed the mule deer handle with dental silver after carving out the oak leaves (Why are these pics so large? I resized them to 600X450 ???)

A funny story he told me one time, He was a member of Cascade Mountain Men and was at rondevous and some guy was pestering him to sell the bowie or make him one like it and my father explained to him that he could not part with it or had the amount of time to make another one. Later the guy was walking past my fathers teepee and about had a heart attack when he saw my father splitting firewood with it!!!

Very nice work. I would have liked to have watched him making them and learned from his expertise. Thanks for showing them.

nice looking blade, I did get to watch him some times and he wore this visor with magnifying lenses and cut the file work by hand after drawing it out on paper, I have notebooks full of scetches.
