How do I clean this knife??
« on: August 03, 2008, 02:32:00 PM »
I hope this goes here.
I will be carrying this old, OLD TIMER in the woods with me this fall. It hasnt been used for quite some time, and the blade has oxidation        , or whatever is on it. It was Dads, and I inherited it and was wanting to take it out. I tried WD-40 already.

Try some Break Free and some 0000 steel wool.
Otherwise, just use it and think of your Dad.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

break free or rusty duck. rusty duck seems to work a little better on heavy rust

Its a Beautiful Knife( I love those "Old Timer"s) I'd leave it the way it is or give it a little oil and some fine sand paper!

I would try Semichrome polish.  It is very gentle.  I have used it successfully to clean light rust and discoloration on high carbon steel.

I respectfully disagree, there is very little tarnish to remove, coarse sand paper is much to strong there. Looks like a flitz only (or similar) case
