What is Your Personal Hunting Knife?
« on: August 24, 2008, 02:59:00 PM »
With all the great knives in every size & shape on this forum....What is Your personal hunting knife that You carry (be it your own made or someone else)?

I've always liked a small three finger knife, 6 1/2" AOL, a paracord grip for non-slippage, and a cross draw sheath...with or without a Bud Popper  :)   tippit

Either...

Or...

The little Ian Bailey Damascus is a fantastic blade. Cutting edge is just 2-1/2" It just has an amazing tactile, weighty quality about it. I find it very difficult to not play with, it just feels so nice in my hand.

You mean I have to choose one??!

I haven't decided yet.  Could be this one:

Or maybe this one:

Or this one:

If I have time to make one for me it'll be the sister to this one:

Hah! I know what you mean! If I'm honest I don't actually have 'A' hunting knife. I have many, many hunting knives  :D  The difficult part is trying to match my knife with the rest of my outfit! (Accessorising is simply everything daaahhling!)

I know ya'll have plenty of knives and could take a different one each time...But if you could just take one for Hunting...field dressing & skinning?

That's the one I want to see..not cause it's pretty but most functional for You.  There, I made it a little harder...I think   ;)  tippit

I'll try this one first off this year.

This one is my current carry all the time when hunting or 3ding.

I really like the smaller one because it has a crossdraw sheath, is easy to sharpen and holds an incredible edge. Plus you can't go wrong with anything forged by Doug Campbell.

I'd show you mine too, but Sticshooter and Shell has it right now.

Right now, it would have to be my Baker drop point;

She's got about a 3 & 3/4" blade made of S30V, made out of some tapered thick stock, sweet grind and a fine edge. It fits my paws right well. I also have a Buck Vanguard that I'm pretty fond of. I like about 4" or so blade. They seem to handle a lot of tasks well and a 8" OAL well made knife fits my hand well.

This has been my knife of choice for the last 25yrs.
I have gutted and skinned everything from squirrels to white Tails, upland game birds, waterfoul and fish. I think I'm going to retire it this year and use this one that I received from Frank in this years knife swap.

I reckon so

Hmmm, the "one" delema has me stumped.  I carry a few when out hunting I guess, as well as a different assembly when out hiking, bushcrafting, stumping, flyfishing, camping and the like.... But this year:

A Helle Fire (I have removed the fire steel from this sheath all together since Helle knives absolutely suck for sparks) is in the kill pack:

My Enzo Trapper (on the left) will be on my belt for chores:

And this little trade knife necker is usually around my neck in the woods as well.  I bought it from G. Fred Asbel, so I keep hoping it has some of his mojo.  Alas, I haven't taken any animals since I bought it!

So, does three knives count?  I may cut out the fire or the trapper to save on weight since I am backpacking it in this year...

This one is by robtattoo.

I have one sticshooter made me that will get some woods time this year as will the one Jeremy's Dad made that I won in this years auction.

Been using a Buck 110 folder and a few others for way to many years.
