First damascus Blade
«

Here is my first damascus blade and second forged knife. It has a ton of layers but only the thick ones show up well. I forged it from pieces of lawnmower blade and band saw blade. I am sure the thick lines are the mower blade because they were thicker to begin with. Up close you can see all the layers. I am pleased with the weld but need to get more contrasting steel to achive the look I am after.
Adding bone handle today.

I have etched it in vinager and a weak acid and neither has improved it much? You can tell how far the blade was sitting in the acid by the line on the handle/tang. The pieces of mower blade were pretty thick and the band saw blade was obviously very thing so if you look real close you can see a lot of layers between and around the two thick ones? This was an attemt to weld so I will buy some good steel and do a better job next time. I added a handle of moose antler and sone orange spacers made from a paint tray and welding rod pins. Everything is home brew and just stuff I have on hand. Obviously I need to do a lttle finish work when the epoxy hardens 100%.

Well I left it in the acid bath over night and it etched much deeper so I am more pleased than ever. Just need to do some polish work and also polish my skills a bit and this damascus thing will be fun.

There you go Bob!
Even with a strong acid it can take awhile to bring out the pattern.
