couple???
« on: October 24, 2008, 01:01:00 PM »
I have a couple quick questions for thought and would like your inputs.

I'd like to make some blades out of stock steel so I can make a bunch of blades all the same with consistency. Up until now all my knives are old saw blades. I would still like to be able to oil quench as I do now, do you all think 1095 is a good choice or should I move on up to o-1 or something similar??

Is it necessary to temper immediately following quench or can it wait a few hours??

Either one is good steel, but I recommend tempering as soon as possible after the quench. You can run them in small batches, say 3-4 at a time. Just a suggestion. Lin

Thanks guys. As far as the temper I was just curious if it was worth it to heat and quench at work then temper several hours later at home but I figure I'll just bring the toaster oven to work too. I figure I'll give both steels a try and see what I like best. Skippy
