rust on a saw blade knife
« on: October 29, 2008, 03:37:00 PM »
so, i'm starting my first ever attempt at a knife.  i got an old table saw blade from work and have cut out a drop point knife blank.  i brought it in to work today so i could put a bevel on it with our belt sanders, and i noticed some rust starting around the edge where i cut.  it's not a lot, but it's there.  do i need to do something special to the blade when i've finished everything, such as wax, or will the polish pretty much take care of any future rust issues?  also any tips for a build from here on out would be greatly appreciated.  thanks!

Best to keep it waxed or a layer of oil on it.

I use an car cleaner wax (Mother's Carnauba) that helps seal and remove oxidation...but since my blades always have some unpolished roughness, a little rust doesn't bother me...tippit

thanks for the replies guys.  i just didn't know if the polish would sort of, "seal" the metal, or if i needed to treat it.  I'll try the wax thing.  thanks again!
