Thanks Karl

Something Karl explained in the 1095 thread finally clicked for me and I was finally able to do a decent edge quench where I was totally in control, and could see what was happening the whole time.
Up until now I only had one good edge quench, all the others I just heated as for an edge quench and dunked them completely. Which  made for a nice differential heat treat, but seems like cheating.

here is the blade I did today. I have taken to doing a quick etch before tempering so I can see if it is a good heat treat. I was getting a soft spot between the tip and belly on a lot of my edges.

thanks Karl!!

Coolness!!!!
Sometimes, ya' just gotta connect a few dots and it makes all the difference.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.
