« on: November 14, 2008, 10:03:00 AM »
I was given this piece of antler and can not figure out what type critter if would have come off.I have all type deer moose elk bo raindeer just about everything. This stuff is almost like ivory. Its well aged from the sun and if anything should be very light weight. Its not completely soild and does have the smallest pours in the center. Its real heavy and dence. Also way to big to be deer antler more the size of elk or moose. Are some like sambar stag antlers almost solid or very near solid.thanks bd

That was the only piece I had,I cut enough off the make the handle. It must be some sambar type stag critter rather then north arerican. One thing also its so hard it almost burned the blade up on my band saw when I cut it.When belt sanding it kind of fills the pours of the sand paper really quick.Thank you on the knife.bd

No problem. I have seen NA antler that seems to get more dense with less of a soft core as the animal get older...seems that way to me at least.

I would say moose. That looks very dense and would be from the base near the burr.<><

I think it's a unicorn.

When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
