STAG BOWIE & A BUSHY KNIFE
« on: December 20, 2008, 03:18:00 PM »
GOT THESE TWO DONE TODAY. THIS BOWIE HAS A 10" BLADE AND A STAG HANDLE. I HAMMERED THE FINGER GUARD AND THE PINKY GUARD ALSO. BAD THING IS THE BLADE BENT WHILE I HEATED IT BECAUSE OF THE FINGER GUARD. I WILL KEEP THIS ONE..WHICH IS REALLY OK    :bigsmyl:   . NEXT TIME I STAND IT ON THE SPINE. WON'T REALLY HURT THE USE OF THE KNIFE AND YA GOTTA REALLY LOOK TO SEE IT. THE BUSHCRAFT KNIFE HAS IPE HANDLES AND IS SWEET. ALL IN ALL I AM HAPPY. WILL BE MAKING MORE BOWIES LIKE THIS. THANKS<><

Thanks. I really like the hammered finger guards. I thought about the pinkie one a few days ago. I was laying bed thinking of knives when it hit me( no not shell) the thought about the pinkie guard. So I was on a mission LOL.  I modified a hammer at work to hammer them better. so I will give it a ty this week. thanks Guys <><

sorry guys I forgot the specs. The rifleman's Bowie has a 9" blade and oal of 14" just about the biggest knife I can do with my forge. I had to turn it kinda sideways to stuff it in there all the way. The Bush craft knife which like 4runr it is starting to become my favorite. Love IPE wood and plan on a combo handle soon with it and maybe osage and ebony. Blade is 5.5" oal is 10". The mountian man Nessie knife has a 6'5" blade and a oal of 11.5" she is a wide one. thanks <><

Great work stick, really nice!  Like all three.

That hammered "pinkie guard" really gives the impression of a full integral or peened on hilt.  Very ingenious and creative.

Question.  Did you do something to the antler to blacken it?  Looks really black on my computer.  Very cool.

Oh, and you might try clamping the blade between a couple narrow plates of aluminum while your forming the hilt if you keep having that warpage thing happen.  It should pull the heat away and help hold it straight.  Plus it won't scuff the blade.

Great work man.  Keep um coming.

The a stag was in a deal I made. It looks like it was painted to bring out the groves. The warped happened because i laid the blade down in my forge to reheat before the quench because of the finger guard. I now rigged up something so it will stand on the spine.<><

Lewis she already knows. We really might just make that move. Kenny It could be. But I will be posting open that looks like your Bowie's twin minus the guard.<><
