What is it you are filing?
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Filing jigs are parallel bars of hardened steel that clamps to a blade where you file notches, shoulders, plunges, etc into it and keep them even and straight. The file slides over the hardened steel guide and cuts the blade.

Yes, Al does carry them. Lin

could you use one of those for filing the bevel on the blade? I find it difficult to stay consistent when filing by hand and thought of building a jig of sorts. SKippy

Skippy,
I cant picture using it to file bevels. I will try to take some pictures of mine in use and post soon. Lin

Lin, if he's talking about the file "guide", not "jig", I use Al's carbide faced guide. It's a little pricy, but so well built and utterly IMPERVIOUS to files, it beats any other one I've made or bought.
Gotta give it to him on that one - it's a winner.

After reading Lin's answer again I understand what the guide is for.
