inlays

hey guys I was wondering if we have a turorial on inlays and where it might be located.  If not how do you do a wire inlay or any inlays?  I would think you would have to do the inlay then stain the wood so you could sand the inlay flat.  If you did it after how would you keep the stain off the inlay when you stained it?  I know nothing about this but I want to learn.
