My future son-in-law bought this blade with the intention of giving the finished knife to his twin brother for a best man gift. He decided the blade was too big for his liking and ordered a different one. Since this one was just laying on my bench, I made a handle for it Saturday. RGK's super glue finish tutorial came at the right time so I used super glue for the finish. I usually use Thunder bird epoxy that I spray on my bows but this was alot faster and easier. Not to mention way cheaper.
The handle is clario walnut with a buckeye burl piece up front. I made the finger guard out of some brass scraps and filed a grooved in it all the way around. Then put a piece of .030 black phenolic, a thin piece of brass then the burl. Repeated the process in reverse on the other side. I made the nut on the end of the handle from a brass locking device.
The blade is pretty big. It measures 1-1/2" wide at the handle. The cutting edge is 4-1/2" and the entire handle is almost 5-1/2". Overall length is just over 10-1/2".
