"Know how to skin Grizz, Pilgrim?"
« on: March 06, 2009, 10:14:00 AM »
I have GOT to stop watching that film!

This is the result of the last viewing.

12-3/4" OAL
7-1/4" clip point blade
Sambar stag handle with brass bolster & buttcap

This is my first attempt at a bolstered fulltang, so be gentle! The blade is about 3/16" thick & beaten out of an old (1960s) landrover leaf-spring, which then ground to shape (Funnily enough, I got the spring from an old guy who's nickname is Grizzly. Funny old world, huh?!)

The sheath is in a mountain-man style with both a normal beltloop on the reverse, plus a slot & belt-flap so I can wear it pretty much how ever I like.

Wow! nice bowie to keep you company on your trip to the "musselshell"

Thats beautiful work right there..If you like Rob as soon as we get to Que'bec with Tom this spring you could give it a try on a live 200# black bear.
We can lure him into the cabin with some crusty creams doughnuts.Where you will be waiting behind the door.Once he's in with you.I slam the door and run like hell. You know what you gotta do before I return with another right ? Whatda ya say ??????? bd

You da same Pilgrim I've been hearin' for three days and smellin' for two?
Sure are cocky for a starvin' Pilgrim.
Where you been, Rob?
You an American yet?
That is my A #1 favorite movie of all time.
I know for a fact I've seen it more than 100 times.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

He was livin' in a cave up on the Musselshell with a female panther. She never did get used to him. ...

Thanks guys,I can always rely on you lot to put a grin on me face!  :D

Dan, yep, I pinned the bolster with 2 4mm brass pins, the buttcap is pinned into the end of the antler.

It's presently coated in a mixture of ketchup & mustard to hurry-along the patina on the brass. It looks far to new! I'm seriously considering burying it in the garden for a few weeks to 'mature'  :D
