How many of you send blanks off...
« on: March 28, 2009, 12:33:00 AM »
cut your blanks then send them off to get the bevel cut? A friend of mine just got a new "toy" for building knives, that electronically files bevels (real high tech). I think if i can talk him into it ill cut some blanks and let him cut my bevels so they are consistant. Any of yall sent them off, or have alternate methods? i can do it on the belt sander but this seems like a bit easier solution.

then why even do it? Just buy a Blank and put handles on it. Grinding is the most fun IMVHO><><

I think it'd be easier if I just sent mine to Lin to have him do 'em.

Didnt know i would draw this kind of attention. Personally i cannot find a blank i really like-and when i do it has some kind of markings on it. What ever happened to simple knife blanks? I dont do this to sell, i do it for fun! but when you dont have the right equipment it makes it difficult. Basically i give them away as gifts to the landowners who let me hunt and trap their ground-just a lil something to say Thanks. WHen my friend told me that he got his new toy for knife making i figued a case of beer and a few knife blanks would give us high school buddies a chance to get together more often.
