Beer Butt goes to Bear Camp
« on: June 11, 2009, 08:51:00 AM »
Leaving tomorrow for Bear Quest Camp, just finished up my last project.  New prototype to be tested at bear camp...my R&D Blade Field Lab

Nothing fancy cause I want to see how it works out first.  Made for multi tasking...but designated driver required!

5160 carbon steel, slight hollow ground on 10 inch wheel, 7 3/4 inches OAL with handle being slightly longer for good grip on backward maneuvers! Bright fluorescent yellow paracord for visualisation in poor light or blurry eyes      Doc

The cool thing about this beer opener is you Don't even need to take the blade out of the sheath!  Guess I can leave the skin suture material at home this year   ;)

Nice blade Jeff, though I would expect nothing less  :) . I hope you have fun using both ends of that baby (preferably the pointy one first).

Hunt safe, Doc.
Get that thing bloody and give us a Field Test report when you get back!
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Using the point end leads to using the butt end. Beautiful knife Jeff! I love the rough look with your knives.

Yes Doc arrowed the bear of a lifetime in Que'bec. Our guide said there has only been 3 bears taken in the 300+ # range in 20 years of hunting there.
Believe me Doc's knives got a work out this year.I was in love with the small one left behind for the biggest bear contest winner. But of course I had to surinder it to Tom the last day in camp.I would not sacrafice my great friendship with Doc over stealing one of his knives but trust me I thought about it plenty of times..Best knife I've ever used.bd

Thanks for the kind words bowdoc, It was a pleasure to win my own knife as it took an over 300 pounder to do it!  Young Thomas Reeves who took his first bear at the age of 14 and I made a deal.  If I won the Biggest Bear knife, then he would get the knife  :)   Doc

Congratulations Jeff on a dandy of a bear!
Young Tom must have been walking on cloud 9! His first bear at 14 and one of your knives to boot.  What could have been better?

I heard that story in camp and thought that was just a super cool thing to do Doc.Which was one of the things that made me surrender the knife back to Tommy on the last day.I used it in the kitchen and its got the mojo now. What a great blade doc just the right size.I told Tommy if'en you want I would be more then happy to supply some old bow wood brazilian rosewood actually for the scales ??? just let me know.I know normally its the leg bone of said bear that is used for the handle but just thought I would offer.
Dang it Doc its looking like next year I may have to hold out for the slammer of slammers and win one for myself.Let me see here the last 3 years my total weight on 3 bears was very near beating the 309# slammer you got this year.Does that count ? never mind they were only 307 total weight.bd

I figured that the knife forum is not the place for dead bear pics. However I also figured with the story behind the dead bear and the 14 year shooter winning one of Doc's knives what the hey huh ? I will be more then happy to remove the pic of the dead bear if its offends anyone.I was just really happy for Thomas getting his first bear at 14 years old.thanks dudes you rock.bd
