My Granddaughter's New Knife
« on: July 22, 2009, 10:33:00 PM »
My Granddaughter, Kelsey, is an extremely fortunate recipient of a Don and Skyler Wilson knife.  She hasn't seen it yet as she won't be back from New York for a couple of weeks.  The pic just doesn't do that handle justice -- it's beautiful.

Dana,

I won't be much help in telling you about the material of the handle.  But as Don Wilson explained it to me, a gent nearby to him makes it.  I'm not sure of the composition, but Don and Skyler spent a lot of time sanding with different grades of paper.  By the time they got down to 600 grit, what started out to look like it was just clear began to show the true colors.  He makes this material in a lot of different colors -- if you can come up with a color -- he has it or can manufacture it.

Thx everyone for the nice comments....The blade is L-6 froman old sawblade that we found while turkey hunting a few Years ago and have built a couple of St. Judes knives from it....Kelsey's Dad, Chris, has the first knife from the same blade. He Purchased it on St. Judes last year. It is heat treated and rockwell tested to 57...And we're Glad you like it Kelsey....
