Removing oil from a sharpening stone?

Just wondering what would be the best way of getting oil out of a sharpening stone. I have found a better oil to use and want to get the existing oil out of them.  Thought about using gun scrubber but didn’t know if that would hurt them.

I would use Dawn dishwashing liquid in warm water.

That said, I dont use the oil except to float filings away. I oil the stone and wipe it off, then sharpen the knife. If the stone loads up, I oil it and wipe it again. Sometimes I wash away the filings with WD-40 and wipe off and go again. Lin

Gun scrubber will do it...I've also used carb cleaner....

I was thinking carb cleaner also but didn't want to totally old school on them!

dish soap and hot water. hot water opens the pores in the stone dish soap takes the oil away. Carb cleaner will work I would not use it on a old quality stone. A cheap new stone carb cleaner work the best good luck.

I'm going to try the dish soap first and see what happens...I'll go with other compounds if that doesn't work.

This reminds me of when I was a kid cleaning my muzzleloader...hot water and dish soap.
