Where can I get an Olive Ash block?
« on: August 26, 2009, 10:00:00 PM »
I have a Widow PL coming in black glass and Olive Ash.I would like to put together a stick tang knife using an Olive Ash block. All I have been able to find are laminations.Does anyone know where I can get a block? It doesn't have to be very long because I'll probably use buffalo horn with it.

Is there another more common name for this wood?

When I google an image of "olive ash" everything that shows up appears to be regular olive wood to me. If that is the case then you can find some on the auction website. I would send you some but I don't have any in blocks...only slabs.

RH- you don't need blocks to do stick tangs.

Follow Lin Rhea's instructions at

and you can see how bookmatched scales can be turned into a hidden tang knife.
