pins for handles question

I have a knife I want to put new handle sides on. Are the pins glued in or are they slightly over sized and pressed in? Do you glue the handles to the side of the knife or do the pins keep them in place. I have never tried this and want to learn.

The pins would not be oversized. They should fit easily and would be either glued in or piened or both. I recommend gluing, since your new to it and dont want to crack a handle. Use Devcon 2 ton and clean up with acetone. Rough up the glued surfaces to about 60 grit first. Holler if you have questions. Lin

I glue the handles also. Be warned...You can't build just one!

Like Lin, I use Devcon 2 ton epoxy. I rough my pin material with 120 grit sandpaper.
I also tapper one end of the pin so when inserting, it will help to center and align both
handle pieces on the tang. Just make sure to have glue in both handle pin holes, not just the first side.
I have piened a few pins before, but really there is no need if you rough and glue correctly.

Frank I didn't get one from you, not a big deal. Just have to give you a litte crap once in awhile. lol This is one I had that I am replacing the handle on.

Eric I used 1/8" welding rod with epoxy at the same time I did the handle blanks I made out of that ceder that the atlatl's were made of. Then I cut them a fraction wider than the handle and CAREFULLY peened them. Then sanded the blanks to shape.
 
I don't know if this is the right way but it worked for me. If anybody has tips to make things go smoother I would like to hear them also.
