From file to knife--My first attempt

Well,All done but some polish on the blade & finish for the rosewood--This has been the most exciting things I've done in quite a few years.Thanks to all on this sight for the help & knowlege that walked me thru this adventure.I feel like I built this thing backwards,instead of the right way.Its a beginers knife but I am happy the way my 1st turned out.Probabilly should  go get a Tetanus shot.I've got more cuts -burns- scrapes-black fingers than I've had since I was a kid....Again I tip my hat to all.....

I just got some finish on the handle.I believe its Brazilian Rosewood..Came from a Fred Bear Grizz....

Can anyone recomend a book for a novice knife builder.I believe I need to do some reading before I attempt this again....I also need to find a stamp to put my initials on the tang...Any info would be appreciated...Rick...

I use a Cheap set of harbour freight stamps.

 I live where the closest populated areas are 3 hours of driving at least.So I have to depend on

Bob,I found a set on the internet-- Heat treated Chrome Vandium steel.Sounds good but is it.

Good work Rick, I guess I need to get mine done in the next couple days so i can get on to the next one.  I think it looks real nice, how sharp were you able to get it?

Great work. Wish my first looked that good. The first book I bought was the $50 Knife Shop by Wade Goddard. It was very helpful if you want to get into forging. For stock removal you can learn a lot from this site or just googling "knife making tutorial" or something similar. Good luck.

This is my 1st from blade to handle.I have done 3 others but I either found or purchased the blades.Here is a picture of my 1st.

The knife pictured above, I found this bayonet blade in an antique shop.I had an old elk antler shed laying in my back yard for about 10 years.The squirls have been chewing on it.Decided to cut it up & make a knife.This is what started everything rolling.I have made 2 others with blades purchased from smokey mountain knifeworks.I have them at a friends, he is making sheiths for them.I figure in a couple of years I will be able to make a quality knife.And again I tip my hat to all you fantastic knife makers on this site.
