First Knife
« on: February 11, 2010, 07:25:00 PM »
Hey all,
Just started traditional archery and was reading the forums when I stumbled on to the knife crafting forum , and after reading awile I was inspired to make my own.I made it in all of two days , I was not really putting much effort into it , just a fun way to pass the time.I annealed the steel in a wood burner , no other heat treatment , the blade was cut from an old circular saw blade. Red oak handle slabs , aluminum pins and lanyard hole. Spent about $3 on it , craft leather sheath with shoe lace lacing  :D

Looks good for a first effort. I am in the middle of my first and I can onlyhope it will turn out as good. What did you do to harden and temper it after shaping.

No tempering was done after shaping , and yes I've been looking around on the internet for blade steel , and it seems like 1095 isn't that expensive.

If you annealed the whole blade and didnt heat treat it after, you may have problems with it holding an edge-I did that on a file knife once and it was a pain.ended up tempering the blade later
