belt too tight for my grinder?!

Anybody ever have a belt that is a bit too tight and bogs your grinder motor down? I put on a Klingspor 36 grit on my 2x42 Craftsman and it is too tight... just barely. Will it stretch maybe if I just leave it on overnight? Anything else I can do? Maybe just a defective belt?

They usually don't stretch enough before something else gets ruined. Usually the bearings.
I'd take the belt off & make sure everything turns smoothly, then put another one on. You gotta have some adjustment or there's gonna be problems.

I figured it out... it's my guard. It is wedging against the lower part of the guard. Adjustments are in order....
