Well after putting off the finishing of my knife to match my Black Widow recurve for alomst five months I finally finished it.
I used the same Helle blade as I did in dad's, however a big difference in this project was that I had my bow in hand to make it match, whereas with dad's I only knew the wood choice.
Here are some pics along the way.
Starting supply of phenolic I got from Black Widow and the wood Blanks I got for my knife from Ray Hammond. I owe both for their generosity...
Here is my starting point after gluing the pieces together. I used Devcon 2ton, two part epoxy and made sure the surfaces were cleaned with acetone and sanded flat...
Here you can see the top of the knife and where the tang would go. That was just an initial pilot hole that I made much larger to fit the tang and give plenty of room for epoxy to go all the way in...
Here you can see the rough end cap where the knife goes into the handle. I cut the groove with a dremel "heavy duty" cutting wheel and then used a small file set to get it the perfect size...
Here you see the knife clamped to the cabinet and the handle clamped to the knife during gluing...
Here are a few of the finished product, with a few with my bow too...
