Anvil Question?
« on: October 05, 2010, 10:15:00 AM »
I am in the market for an anvil to use in the blade forgeing process. How do the cast iron anvils work compared to a steel anvil? I was looking at the 100 pound grizzly cast iron anvil. Is this a good choice for blade building?

The cast iron anvils are generally known as "anvil-shaped-objects" for a reason!  If they are all you can get, then go for it, but there are alternative anvil options that are far better.

A good thick piece of forklift fork works pretty good , I would steer clear of cast china made stuff , I see some from time to time on craiglist , they have one now in Louisville it looks pretty rough on one side but i cant really tell about the face , you might want to check it out .
