Back in the saddle again...

Well after an unbeleivable busy and long summer here on the ranch I've finally got the knife shop up and running again. During the "busy" season it's pretty much 24/7 here so now I'm looking forward to a long quite winter in the shop.

OK on to the knife... this is my first JS stamped knife since passing my Journeyman Smith test back last June in Atlanta. Spect I'm probably the last of the new 2010 JS's to get his first knife done but I wanted to do it right and not start it till I could give it the attention it deserved. The new owner is a fellow TGer, he asked for Carbon Steel and Bighorn Sheep.

She's 4 1/4" of 52100 forged from a 2"dia round bar, stainless guard and Nevada Desert Bighorn.

Oh my gosh, Doug!!!! That knife is just breathtaking. Now you have me all excited about the knives you will be making at some point for me since they will be the carbon steel, like the 52100 (which is one of my favorites), and the sheep's horn. Seeing this incredible knife makes the anticipation even sweeter. Thanks for posting the photo. Merry Christmas.

Thanks guys, it's good to be back and even better that summer is over    Really been wanting to get back at it. Got several blades on the bench in various phases of completion.

Your blades are there also Allan been watching for just the right handle material.

As I told you when I ordered the knives, I'm not in any hurry to get them and want you to find the horn that looks like what we talked about, because I plan to have those knives for the rest of my life and pass them on to my son when I am gone. I love looking at your work and feeling the joy of anticipation build. I am used to delayed gratification when there is something really special at the end -- and those knives I will eventually get from you will definitely be special, just as the one shown here is. There are some excellent knife makers who post on this site, and you are up there at the top of the group along with a few of the others. It is so nice to see this resurgence in true craftsmanship that seemed all but lost for many years. Thanks for your part in keeping it alive.
